    Default Bone Marrow Donation

I've plucked the courage to do a bone marrow.

    Anyone else done it?
I'm aware it's painful but not sure how painful

But I know it's worth it saving someone else's life.

Q: Does donating marrow hurt? Are there side effects? A: Marrow donation is done under general or regional anesthesia so the donor experiences no pain during the collection procedure. Discomfort and side effects vary from person to person. Most marrow donors experience some side effects after donation. Common side effects of marrow donation include: Lower back pain Fatigue Stiffness when walking Bleeding at the collection site Some donors said the experience was more painful than they expected; others said it was less painful. Some donors describe the pain as similar to achy hip bones or falling on their buttocks. Others say it feels more like a strained muscle in the back. The ache may last a few days to several weeks.
I hope all goes smoothly for you.

i heard it was extremely painful, i think my mom told me about it a few years back because her best friend donated. and she said she'd never do it again.

so fair play to you if you do it.

I'd imagine it to be painful but I guess it will be helping someone at the end of the day. Hope it goes well if you go ahead with it x

    Edit: @Futz 18 I think

Well I've always been one to worry about the anaesthesia but theres not much you can do but hope someone's watching over you for doing a good deed. I'm saying that as a atheist LOL.

    I'm giving blood tomorrow,
then platelets after then I'm going to do the bone marrow in a few months, hopefully I can qualify to join the bone marrow list and help save someones life.

As some people still think my history is with me, if I get accepted to do the bone marrow, I'll post some proof so I can show prove myself.

Bloody sounds painful after reading all that. Best of luck to you if you decide to do it.

I'm all for this, I think with things like this, if we can, we should. We would live in a better world if everyone was willing to endure a little pain to save lives of others. Good on you, Sam!

Exactly. I am happy to be in excruciating pain for a few weeks knowing I've helped someone live.

I would want someone to do the same if I were in a position of needing a bone marrow transplant, unfortunately that isn't the case but hey I am going to be helping and I'll do it as much as I can. (I believe they prefer 12 months apart, but it only takes 1 month for my bone marrow to regrow, so in urgent cases i'd be called upon earlier.)
