Threads like "What socks do you wear" or "What did you recently eat" are being discussed as we speak and if all goes to plan something could happen which should be better for the forum and save hassle in the future when it comes to the forum rules and these 1-2 worded, pointless threads.

The thread Stephen posted in had a purpose and was generally looking for advice, I would say it was a serious thread and the thread starter wasn't creating that thread expecting a giggle and laugh to come from it.
I'll have to apologise, I didn't actually read the original post and assuming it was just general posting, in that case I would be with you on this one.

Maybe it’s time that members (non staff) selected a staff member of the month or quarter. The Members Recognition Award, or a similar title, given for outstanding contribution or similar. This could be run monthly or quarterly. Bronze, silver and gold.

Who would select the recipients? Members of the Month perhaps?
This, after all Member of the Month is still a popularity contest anyway - just amongst staff. A little birdy told me a very long time ago that I was knocked back for example for being 'right wing'. Either way we know a great portion of people, staff or not staff, are going to pick based simply on their friendships/spheres of interest. So I think I would rather the vote be public as opposed to staff picked, although i'm not in a position to judge the process in its present form.

If it was based on quality I would surely receive an award every month so I agree that it's probably bias

Of course it is 'biased'. It isn't an award for the person with the highest post count and there is no crazy formula that takes your post stats to determine who is the best member. The decision is made by staff who use their observational skills to determine and endorse a member of the month. Since it is based on qualitative and not quantitative results then there are obviously non-measurable criteria going in to the result. That is how it always has been and it was never a secret so I don't understand why you are talking about it like it is a surprise.

I have never voted for somebody I have a relationship with, I believe people have voted before and exclaimed they don't like the person but they are the best member in that area of that month.

Totally untrue. All nominations have to be backed up with examples and those who get the most nominations win. Also nobody has ever been 'knocked back' for being right wing, left wing or any other wing but they have been knocked back for being unecessarily negative in their posts.

I find MOTM is pretty good. Those who have won in the past have made some decent posts and contributions. That said, I have won awards I didn't think I should of won and others have they did not know why they won. It could be one of those "quality is hard to come by" moments, and other moments where it is hard to judge.

Sometimes we struggle to decide on who should win for the games section, and thats why there isn't a winner for games in the March motm.

Does rs section get ignored for the games section or something then :L cause there is plenty of good people who could win from that tbh who contribute a lot to the section if u can't pick from other bits ;p
