Are you sure that's the issue? Windows doesn't let you have a nice background if it hasn't been activated for a certain amount of days.

See if the following works:

1) Goto Start
2) Type 'CMD'
3) Right click on 'cmd.exe' and select 'Run as administrator'
4) Type the following into the window that shows up: slmgr /rearm
5) Restart your computer.

Activate Windows as soon as you can though.

I feel incredibly stupid now, it actually worked. Thank you for that!

I had "my computer", "recycle bin", "downloads" (folder) and "google chrome" on the desktop on my old Windows computer
