Habbo hasn't done it before. That is my point. Of course they are going to think about sex, it's part of growing up. That doesn't mean everybody else should have to listen to people's fantasies and how they want to rub their pixel crotch on some other pixels crotch. I know I certainly don't want to see a conversation between a 2 horny teenagers.

What a kid watches at home is up to them and their parents. Some kids might wan't to have cyber sex with somebody, the majority of kids don't go on Habbo for that, and therefore don't want to see rooms with "Strip club" and "Free sex" as the titles.
oh dear, did you start on habbo recently or something? check the older filters and see how much stricter they were. none of this means anything, though, since you can turn the filter off completely with the click of your mouse. why did habbo allow that? because they realise filters are useless and only there to give a false sense of security to tech-imparied parents.

the majority of kids don't go on habbo for sexual content? alright, i'm leaving now but you can feel free to explain why channel four has pointed out that the most popular and full areas, consistently, are the strip clubs and kissing booths and sexy nightclubs and free sex rooms. you figure that one out while i go have something to drink and eat.

bye bye, all! if you quoted me and i haven't read it yet i regret that i have to go eat. i'm diabetic and all, you know. have to keep that glucose level.

No dear, the two may have gone up but they are not connected. The main reason for the increase in rape levels is actually just a matter of it being reported more as sex education improves (albeit very slowly) and people have more confidence to do so. Also, a gang-related rape would suggest that it's a case of stranger rape (ie: perpetrated by someone the victim doesn't know), which is the least common scenario of all. That brings us nicely to your next blunder -

Rape of a partner (be it male or female, the disparity is nowhere near as wide as people tend to believe) is still by a long long way the most common form of rape. It's nice that you're trying, but please do not get into discussions where you don't know the actual facts, especially when it's something this serious
    1) Common little joke, in the words of Sickipedia; "Just because I find something funny, does not mean I subscribe to its rhetoric".

    2) The fact education is improving is certainly one argument - is there actually any evidence that this is why more people are being raped? I swear it was a report in the Commons just two (maybe one) day(s) ago. They referred to (I believe it was) Asians. Obviously on this basis the report there was also uneducated.

    3) The fact it still exists and is common could be the case. Of course, this would also include when partners are 'raped' over simply a horrible divorce. A friend of mine when I was younger was going out with a girl (both underage, no, I am not condoning that) - who then claimed (and then dropped) that he had raped her. After having the chance to read the texts between them, this was clearly not the case.

    4) I am not claiming to be an expert on the matter. But if you want people to only post when they are experts, I suggest that you find a different forum to post on - as a forum like this is simply not for you x

Er nice of you to jump to the conclusion on why Habbo removed the filter. I believe (what was said at the time) was that it was at recognition of an older userbase - as they (at one stage) seemed to be moving towards older teenagers.

Also, Habbo (it certainly wasn't when I joined) did not appeal to me because of these rooms - do users even know they exist before signing up?

Sorry I can't resist either, the reason they gave the users the option to self-moderate content is due to cut costs, they cut the amount of staff and moderators it was the easiest way to maintain a pretence of moderation by "giving power back to the user", it was a window-dressing response to an internal shift the same as the ignore button and more user room rights taking slack off an under pressure slim line moderation team as the company watched its profits increase. That's an unfortunate fact. Self moderation is fine with rules that are enforced and as a supliment to over all moderation not as a replacement.

When I played Habbo, the entire page of popular rooms is full of dating, sex and strip club rooms!

Although, shall we be fair? Channel 4 is a media company. They like a big story, that is their job. It won't be a fair report in that it will skip out that actually many users do like a nice conversation, buying their pixels. But many, do not.
See I've heard of bullying on Facebook and I wonder how much is actually solved you hear about people taking their own life. So there obviously could be more safe guards in place.

But that isn't my main point right now, my main point is yeah channel 4 and every other news agency loves to report the big story. What they are failing to tell the parents is this site has been going on like it has since probably it originally opened and yet won safety awards apparently.

Forgetting if Habbo is good or bad or what not, surely someone should be investigating the current services in place to look at these sites as they seem to be very poor considering it took them this long to work out what habbo was like.

    Saw this on twitter

'I'm not sure I like Channel 4's approach to the Habbo Hotel story. If a paedo approaches children in a park, you don't blame the park.'

Well I've been busy all day so I've just spent the past few hours reading through the posts in this thread (although I got bored with jasey's debate, sorry!)

I've been thinking this too. Pretty huge generalisation and completely inappropriate.

This is the thing that I'm most fascinated abount. MG posted a random website yesterday, reporting the story, and it's amazing to see how it's grown so much.

Mmmm. It's a shame that their investors aren't standing by them in times of need, but I suppose they don't really want to be associated with it.
