Nope, they did a good job on it! You hardly notice it is there and doesn't really use much resources at all and does the job so it's a win win

An anti-virus made by the people who understand the operating system was always going to be the superior AV. And since you have to have an activated version of windows to use it Microsoft can justify doing a good job with it. Otherwise we'd all be suggesting Nod32 I suspect.

Most AVs have to remind people that it's doing something so that they keep using it.

I used Kaspersky, ESET, Bitdefender and F-Secure. I think that the last one is the best, it uses much more OS. F-Secure Anti-Virus 2012 review . Test proves it

Was wondering when someone was going to mention ESET - when I looked although this was a few years ago a lot of professionals recommend it. I have been using the latest version of ESET Smart Security and find it very light weight. According to Wikipedia (I know not the best source) this is due to the fact it uses assembly language in its products which basically equals low system requirements and low disk use. I'd also like to point out I ESET appears to have the most awards from Virus Bulletin an independent AV testing company - I think if I'm correct it's the only one to get 100 percent each time on all tests (they happen yearly I think).

I used to use BitDefender and was a Beta tester for the 2012 version. However I reported a bug about the internet not working at all while BitDefender was installed and that it only worked with an uninstallation and gave logs and stuff. BitDefender released the full version without fixing this and I noticed on their forum for months many users who had paid where complaining. All BitDefender did was keep asking each time for logs, instead of actually fixing the problem. I believe they eventually fixed it but it made me feel sour about their product - I'd seen it before form them, going out of Beta when the program is still very buggy and have had no problem with Eset since.

AVG free however is also good and I have it on my Studio PC.

I use Trend Micro Titanium, it's always done the job well and I don't even notice its running
