He created a series of scripting applications called 'Axed'. 'Axed 7' allowed users to create hundreds of thousands of bots and bombard hotels with them. That's why he was charged.
There was one a few years earlier that was pretty bad. very cleverly done by a led called EriK though, dont have great screenshots of it.

Holy **** LOL. That looks hilarious. Would have been afraid of a mass bot invasion though haha.He created a series of scripting applications called 'Axed'. 'Axed 7' allowed users to create hundreds of thousands of bots and bombard hotels with them. That's why he was charged.

All the hotels ended up closing for essential maintenance. The attack worked because EriK released a scripting app, but did not tell its users that through it he would be able to send several hundred bots from their IP onto a hotel. After a good few people downloaded it, he launched the attack.
How clever and sneaky haha. Shame stuff like this doesn't happen anymore really, all seems so exciting. All the hotels ended up closing for essential maintenance. Stuff like that can't happen anymore. Far too much work would be required to get it. There's a few issues that change how things work these days. The main ones though are the fact:
- Registration now requires completion of a CAPTCHA. Hard to programmatically do. Therefore can't create bots secretly.
- Message Header Ids change upon every build, so different hotels use different packets; and as they are random on each release we cannot programmatically control the bots (as we dont know which message header Ids are required for walking, and talking etc)
On top of that, Sulake put an enormous amount of work into protecting the hotel over the last few years, there are very few things you can do via scripting any more.
Maybe one day they'll make a slip-up? Could happen ya never know. Chances would probably be zilch though haha.Stuff like that can't happen anymore. Far too much work would be required to get it. There's a few issues that change how things work these days. The main ones though are the fact:

Actually starting to wonder what ever happened to the whole being able to buy a bot thing. IT was tested on .com a few months ago but then I don't remember anything else being said about it ;l hm.

Do not believe any posts you read about bots being active in the hotel. Even if some one did manage to get them going, by the next hotel update the application they were using would be broken, and the bots would not work anymore.Maybe one day they'll make a slip-up? We all miss the good old room styles.
