    Default Motherboard/CPU Question

    Hello peeps,

I bought this CPU last night knowing my mobo had Core 2 Duo support. (Like a bit of an idiot as it turns out)

I read the specification for the motherboard afterwards and noticed it won't accept an FSB of over 800MHz, when the one I've just bought runs at 1066MHz - and now my dreams of getting rid of my single core Celeron D (which now sells on eBay for £2) have been smashed.

I was just wondering what the consequences would be if I paired the two (which would have happened if I didn't get a bit more curious about my mobo this afternoon) and if you could point out a 775 socket motherboard I could buy that supports it that's fairly on the cheap.

Cheers guys! Rep on offer of course.

The CPU should work, provided you have the latest BIOS update for the board.

The CPU clockspeed will be reduced. I believe down to 1.6GHz.

Thanks for that! Can I assume the 13 or so 775 mobos for sale on eBuyer will support it fully?

As long as it says it supports Core 2 Duo, then you should be ok.

Cheers was expecting a massively exaggerated crisis involving ruined hardware and lots of money for a while.
