    Default Google Employee Death Benefits

Saw a link to this on facebook and it's a really interesting read ; click here

    Main part:
Instead, Bock, who joined the company in 2006 after a stint with General Electric, blew me away by disclosing a never-before-made-public-perk: Should a U.S. Googler pass away while under the employ of the 14-year old search giant, their surviving spouse or domestic partner will receive a check for 50% of their salary every year for the next decade. Even more surprising, a Google spokesperson confirms that there’s “no tenure requirement” for this benefit, meaning most of their 34 thousand Google employees qualify.

“One of the things we realized recently was that one of the harshest but most reliable facts of life is that at some point most of us will be confronted with the death of our partners,” Bock says. “And it’s a horrible, difficult time no matter what, and every time we went through this as a company we tried to find ways to help the surviving spouse of the Googler who’d passed away.” The case-by-case do-goodery was formally implemented in 2011. In addition to the 10-year pay package, surviving spouses will see all stocks vested immediately and any children will receive a $1,000 monthly payment from the company until they reach the age of 19 (or 23 if the child is a full-time student).
In short, if you work for google and you die, your partner will receive 50% of your salary every year for the next 10 years. If you have children, they will get $1000 a month until the age of 19, or until the age of 23 if they are a full-time student.

I'm going straight to google and demanding a job :¬:

This seems to be an emerging benefit. Britvic have a similar one for office workers (none for factory staff as far as I am aware). A good perk, it puts any organisation into a good light to consider those who share a strong interest in the welfare of the employee (family etc). Interesting that Google involve children.

good benefit, but doesn't bring back your partner. Somewhat a consolation but as I said, you still feel lost after losing said partner. Good for support the family though.

Google always have good perks for their staff. You seen the inside of their offices? They look awesome.

Each office looks different, so some are better than others.

I'm fairly certain it's Google who also give employees in the US in a same-sex civil partnership added bonuses as compensation for the state's lack of tax benefits for such couplings

Yeah you are correct, they did this in 2010:

Google announced yesterday that it would be "grossing-up imputed taxes on health insurance benefits for all same-sex domestic partners in the United States." Basically, the Google Gays (or 'Gayglers,' as the company calls them) who happen to live outside of Connecticut, Iowa, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Vermont and Washington, D.C., and who list a domestic partner on their insurance plans will get a little bonus on their paychecks each month to help compensate for the federal taxes they pay.
