Default Wedding Speech - *URGENT HELP NEEDED*

My step-sister, basically my sister is getting married on the 29th of this month in Scotland. She has asked me to give her away as she doesn't speak/like her father, fair enough, until I gathered I needed to say a speech. I am absolutely useless speaking in front of an audience but i'm going to have to do it!

The wedding has been planned for a few months but I keep postponing that I need to write one, but its now just 8 days before the wedding and I have no idea what to say.

I need links to any useful sites and any tips from people who have done/do this sort of thing.
    +rep to anyone who helps!

    I've searched and found:

    • Welcome the guests to the wedding.
    • Thank them for coming to help you celebrate the wedding of your daughter
    • Tell them about your son or daughter.
    • Tell them about your new son or daughter in-law.
    • Toast the Bride and Groom.

Obviously in your case it'll be about your sister but you get the idea
Always have courage and be kind

What Shaz said, nobody can really tell you what to write on here. Just has to be from the heart I guess.

This, but make it a little humorous. I had to do a best man's speech so I understand how nerve racking it can be, but you'll do fine

I agree with that list. You can also start by admitting you are terrible at speaking in front of an audience, maybe something about being more nervous than your sister could work too. Just make it personal and light - don't get too serious.

Been working on it all afternoon really. Its a tad hard thinking of memories because the sisters is quite a bit older than me so I was pretty young when lots of the memories happened. There's quite a bit of humor in it so far but lots of serious parts also.

    Thanks for the assistance all

The FOB speech.. which obviously you'll adapt as you aren't her Father.. isn't usually the most humerous of speeches, normally more emotional than anything else. (I was a C&B Manager in a Hotel for 7 years, so seen more Wedding speeches than i care to imagine). As someone mentioned above, you thank people for coming etc etc. Throw in a few things about your Step sister and the groom as well! The groom and best man will come up with all the humerous stories, embarassing memories.

Good luck! and enjoy the day!
