Hackintosh help.

Hi all,

I recently acquired a Dell Optiplex GX520, I've had it a few weeks and done nothing with it, today I decided I would look into installing OSX on it.

Now, I have found a guide here: http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/top...ptiplex-gx520/

But, I don't have a Mac/Hackintosh already, so I don't think I can follow that.

But, is there a way?

You can install OS X in a VM, that's how I did everything I needed for it.

10.7 in the vm, because when I set it up 10.8 was not working in a VM yet. 10.8.2 on my actual hackintosh.

I was thinking about trying this out too, have you done it yet? How's it going?

If you're thinking about setting up a hackintosh it really depends on what hardware you're running. Modern Intel based computers are quite straightforward to set up. I've got a 3930K, Rampage IV Extreme x79 and GTX 680. This was slightly more complex since OS X does not support x79 but even so all it took was disabling 5 of the 6 cores + HT since it did not like the hexcore 3930k, booting into the retail OS X ML installer with a few boot options, installing on to a hard drive then simply adding some kexts (like drivers on windows) + the DSDT for my mobo to fix the CPU issue and enable audio+networking.

In terms of getting OS X to work in a VM the easiest option if to download a premade OS X VMWare disk image (this is not quite legal as you're essentially pirating OS X, so look in the appropriate places). You'll also need to find a tool that can modify your VMWare workstation installation to enable support of OS X guests.

Manged to get Lion running in VMWare, Set up an installer using MyHack, Booted using -v but it gets stuck on "Waiting for root device"

I built this computer probably, six months ago so it should be fine.

What are you trying to boot the installer from? Waiting for root device means it can't read the device the installer is on for whatever reason. Also the Dell computer you're trying to install it on it quite old but apparently it should be able to run older version of OS X. I assume you're trying the same version of OS X as in the original link you posted and not Lion?

What are you trying to boot the installer from? Waiting for root device means it can't read the device the installer is on for whatever reason. I assume you're trying the same version of OS X as in the original link you posted and not Lion?

Ah yeah I changed the computer, I'm installing it on an Asus Motherboad, i3 2105, Manged to get past that error as I had it in a USB 3.0 Port, moved it to a USB 2.0 Port and it ran fine, but then it hung at something else ran -v -x USBBusFix. Arch i386, etc, no luck, trying Lion on this.
