They are optional this time round so it would be interesting to see how many keep it or don't.

I read that Lotus didn't want the stepped nose, but the cover to hide it just added weight to the car with no benefit to downforce, so they've decided to keep the stepped nose. Most teams will go the other way I guess.

Does seem you are correct as it says here:
