UKIP donor quits after controversial views on women

Quite a humorous read. I believe "controversial" may be an understatement.

A UKIP donor who said unmarried mothers should be "given a good smack" has said he will give no more money to the party because of the controversy about his views.

Demetri Marchessini, who has made two donations totalling £10,000 to the party, wrote a book arguing women who wear trousers are demonstrating "hostile behaviour".

He told the BBC he stood by his views.

"All my thoughts are traditional thoughts," he said.
"Thoughts that not millions but billions of people have believed."

I think UKIP need to turn away lunatics pretty soon if they are to retain credibility. I'm trying to convince people that UKIP mean well and when numerous stories like this crop up, it's quite hard to do.

There are lunatics associated with all political parties, even mainstream ones. Think Republicans in America and a few Senator candidates views on rape during the election last year.

There are plenty of idiots out there and hopefully it doesn't affect the party itself, which it usually does in terms of image, albeit temporarily. Once this blows over in a week or so, everything will be back to normal.

UKIP has always felt like a bit of a parody political party to me tbh, but it's not like they'd done it: the donor has said he's not giving more money, is there any proof that the party have asked him to stop? Surely they don't deserve more credibility just because a misogynistic lunatic stopped giving them money, right?

Granted every party has the "special" candidates but UKIP for me seems to be blessed with more of them.
