Taking it apart, repairing it / replacing parts is the easy bit but bloody hell does anyone have any methods of remembering what screws go where? I'm on the verge of just banging a few nails in to hold it together.

You could mark screws and the holes with the same colour marker or nail varnish or something?

The way I usually do it is either try not to remove screws completely (just leave them loose in the holes), or lay them out on a flat surface in the shape they were in when they were in the laptop. I'm not sure if I worded that very well. I mean like, a screw from the top left corner of the laptop will go in the top left corner of the area you're laying them out in, etc.

Or you could put the screws on a piece of paper, and then write/draw stuff on the paper to tell you where they go in the laptop.

There are not that many to remember are there? :L

Don't have a method unfortunately - whenever I have to take out screws there never seems to be more than two types.

You could always try and track down the repair manual online. That'll tell you what needs to go where. They're normally available for the more well known brands.

Get a piece of paper, draw the underside of the laptop, mark each screw hole with a number, then place each screw in something you can number
