    Default Bar problems..

So this summer I am managing my family's bar.. I'm a really easy going manager my staff comes and goes as they pleases but my number one rule is don't scoop ice with the glasses. We use glassware to serve our drinks and tonight I was working with and one of my bartenders who has been told time and time again (I even posted signs saying not to scoop ice with glasses) picked up a glass, scooped some ice, mixed a drink and handed it to a patron. I fired her on the spot.. she kicked up a fuss.. the whole thing was a mess.. I feel awful..

    Was this a good decision?
I'm at a point in my life where I don't care if you like me or you don't. If you like me, cool. If you don't, meh.

Firing someone for picking up ice with a glass?

    No, no it wasn't.

I don't think it was right to do that, a polite/informal reminder would have been better as you can't really tell how people are feeling or what's going on in their head. She may have been worrying about x y and z instead of scooping ice into a glass

Do you actually want advice or are you just trying to impress people by saying you're a bar manager

Think you made a mistake. You can't fire someone for scooping ice with a glass. Why does that matter? Also an easy thing to forget if it's busy too. Leave the scoop in the I've bucket so people can't miss it. She's probably not gonna wanna work for you again if you invite her back though!

Tbh I think it was the right thing to do, because you asked her time and time again not to do it and even had things posted around, so there was plenty of warnings for her not to do it, but she carried on. So I think it was a good choice.

But as people are saying it weren't a good idea. if I was to disagree, i would of said, dock her wages.

Is it not more sanitary to scoop it with the glass anyway rather than use a scoop that everyone's been touching all night. I assume that's the only possible issue you could have with attempting to monitor the way ice is scooped

germs can't live or whatever on ice though can they or am i wrong

i wouldn't have fired her straight away though i'd ask her about it and see what her situation is first
