I thnk it can be okay sometimes. If they really don't want anyone to know who they are. But if you're close with that person and speak with them all the time, I don't see why they still hide.

yea sure but not to the extent of faking your pictures especially on dating websites just to lead ppl into thinking that you're pretty and whatnot

yeah they should. I don't really trust many people online that I meet due the anonymity of the internet. They don't have to prove who they are and I've known so many people and heard of stories where people aren't who they say they are and tbh I don't really care because it's so easy to lie to people about who you are.

They shouldn't lie but you can be just as secret and not share personal details.
i used to put the names of my favourite singers here... then i realised nobody cared

So long as you're not pretending to be someone else who actually exists, then I see no harm.

Umm I guess it's okay to a certain extent. If you've just changed your name or something then I don't see the problem at all. It can be a little disorientating for your online friends but what's in a name really? Lying about your gender is a bit more creepy but I'm not completely sure why.. It just is in my eyes.

Faking pictures is really creepy though. It's weird enough for the people online who have viewed you one way all the time they've known you and they turn out to be wrong. But I would be so weirded out if someone had been stealing my pictures and posting them on the internet, pretending to be me?? That's definitely crossing the line.

The internet is a chance to be whoever you want to be.
You can remain anonymous or make an alter ego to get you away from the outside world - you can be whoever you want to be. This, I understand. Maybe even using other people's pictures, not necessarily people that you know or asking people's pictures from forums and stuff but maybe off Google.
I don't think it's a problem when you, for example like me. I drift around this site, I don't know anyone properly. I just use this as something to escape from my life, and give a few opinions; maybe giving the odd detail of my life. However, I don't go on this site looking to make friends and get close to people - if I did then great but it's not an aim. I mean, I bet the large majority of you don't know my name, my age, or where I live. (Might be on my profile but if you didn't look there you wouldn't know).

However, I think if you come online looking for friends and to get close to people, you need to be yourself. It's not fair on the people that you're talking to to get close to this 'fake person'.

If people want to pretend then that's fine - it's likely that they'll slip up though.
