The Union Flag and Scottish independence

The flag that roared and still roars across the world: the Union Flag

The Union flag, created with the Unions of the Crowns in the early 1700s, is one of the most famous and well known flags as well as a symbol across the world. From bags to the back of phone cases, from sofas to even the flags of other nations: Australia, New Zealand, Fiji and others... it's the flag that has flag over most of the world for the past 300 years. With potential Scottish independence however, this raises an important question: what then for the Union flag?

The consideration over what to do with the Union flag in the case of Scottish independence is unknown due to the United Kingdom not actually having an official flag, although everyone uses the Union flag. Even more so, could people accept and part with the blue being torn out of the Union flag? Should the Welsh element be included in the flag if it is redesigned? Should we redesign it at all or just keep it as it is? Or should we go for a completely new design?
