Both me and Phil have been talking about refreshing the role and hopefully adding something to it with new awards applied elsewhere outside of the Debates forum. It'll be announced + sorted before the month is out, don't worry: we just didn't consider it high priority over Christmas and New Year.

New Year was basically a month ago. How bloody hard is it to post a thread whilst you're coming up with an idea. You seem to manage pretty well with the current affairs forum.

I'll put some up then, had been wanting to use new awards though as a carrot and stick approach.

Current Affairs is hopefully going to be part of the role as i've always viewed it as informally part of the role anyway hence the posts. More so for bigger events like Elections (British, America) it'll hopefully include more rewards/prizes/comps. It's all been under discussion anyway including new Awards for across the forum.

Should have been fired long ago from Debates.

I'll admit been slacking in Debates since the autumn but other things have been put first.

We haven't forgot about it though as there's been ideas put forward and PMs exchanged. End of January was specified as when it would be changed around.

Don't scrap the position, and no bias intended. It has a lot of potential if it is revamped a little bit and debates and current affairs is one way of doing so. I scrapped structure of bi-weekly debates before I left a while back and it worked out and Dan did a great job at first and then it became a bit to loose (not necessarily Dan's fault, there needed to be further ideas for revamps in the first place), as well as having not enough advertising or incentives to promote/ participate, with some debates ending up dead and running too long.

Anyway, as I have said, this debates and current affairs idea is interesting and it could mean that it could be less structured, but at the same time give incentives to win prizes (VIP etc.), as well as hopefully get more people to talk about and participate in current affairs. I also allowed Habbo debates, well there was only one that I did, as it fills a much younger demographic and I see no harm in debating an interesting or contentious on-client issue, as long as it's not been overdone.

Bringing current affairs closer to the debates forum will only diminish what little temptation there is to participate in official debates at the moment.

Handing out different awards for different posts not only just in Official Debates but around the forum too, rather than just one award for posts solely in the Debates Forum. I always think Debates tend to take off better (like in Current Affairs or Discuss Anything - or even Spam) spontaneously and by mistake rather than structured in the Debates Forum: and it'd be good to recognise that. It's worth a shot anyway and see what happens.

A part of the problem though, as above, is often Debates/good argument or discussions on the forum can take place elsewhere across the forum other than in the designated forum and hopefully we can make the role into something that is more forum-wide rather than just confining it to that one forum.

A lot of the debates/in-depth discussions that arise in Current Affairs completely by mistake are one example.
