Well we do know that there was at least 89,808 people in this study. They wouldn't add in any other death because it doesn't pretain to the statistic.

And this was an annual count... So it was the most current statistic that they could get (as noted in the picture)

there's nothing stating how many people are actively using either of them, so out of 79,700 deaths due to smoking, maybe there's 50 million people smoking and only 0.16% have died, and maybe only 1000 people use heroin and so 76.5% of heroin users have died..

obviously those are completely inaccurate figures but that's the point. you have no idea how many people actively use any so okay it looks like tons died due to smoking,but there's probably over 100x more smokers than there is heroin users.

it's all relative and the full statistics aren't given, so it's useless.

I'm pretty sure the graph is showing the amount of deaths from drugs (both legal & illegal) in a given year.. So those numbers are based upon the total amount of deaths in the year that was related to a drug.

There is relevance for it...
