If worst comes to worst, I'd suggest eBay or amazon.

I bought (and still buy) all of my dance uniform from Dance Direct. It's probably maybe the cheapest place I've found and it's all good stuff. Tap shoes, ballet shoes and jazz shoes I'd recommend you go into a shop before buying them online because sizes can differ heavily! Just nip in a nearby dance shop, check your size and then buy online if you wanted.

I'm not sure why they want you to have tap shoes with a 2 inch heel but for the longest time I swore by Capezio taps but found that Block are also good. I've tried a few but if you want some good tap shoes I'd suggest you go with either of those makes. Definitely get teletone taps, honestly. I've taught people with cheap tap shoes and I've had to ask them to do things more than once because I can't hear their taps properly!

I'd suggest also get a few donuts for your ballet bun and a LOT of cheap pins. You can buy these from Boots and some other places but you'd need them a lot. Pins obviously go missing so just buy some cheap ones - and your donuts will eventually get ****** up so like I said buy a few! It's always good to have spare as well, just in case.

With your jazz shoes, I'd probably suggest Capezio again. Make sure you get jazz SHOES and not TRAINERS. Some people prefer trainers, but I'd go for shoes every time because jazz trainers are a pain.

Your character shoes I doubt you'd use a lot, mainly in shows. You'd be able to find tan character shoes in a lot of places though - because they look much better on stage.

If you have any other questions lemme know @Kimmy; I'll be happy to help where I can

I ended up with Capezio stuff in the end despite how massively expensive it is. I think they want the bigger heels because it's musical theatre and everything's sort of BIG. I did tap for a long time before and I used the smaller block heel, so this'll be different.

I bought ballet shoes online, they're the easiest to find.

Tap shoes were £40 odd, but they're a good pair.

I bought jazz shoes because i don't much like the trainers.

It's all a massive pain in the arse, but I can't wait to just have my stuff to use. Thanks for the help +rep

Yeah, I studied Musical Theatre for a bit then went on to teaching tap. Which tap shoes and ballet slippers did you buy?

I think I must've spent so much on dance uniform when I first started, it's ridiculous. I've had a good 3-4 years out of the tap shoes I currently have (which are Capezio) and they're still going relatively strong. I'll need to get some soon because point is becoming too difficult on them!

I think heeled taps are ridiculous. Some girls strangely prefer them but I'd much prefer to teach people in block heels. Heel digs, for example, sound so much better.

Errr, the ballet shoes were from a dance site I found and the taps are tan capezios with the 2'' heel. I thought the heel size was ridiculous too but it's musical theatre... mostly all a bit ridic.

When I trained in tap before, I 100% preferred smaller heels. I also think BLACK tap shoes look better than tan, but I think they want them to look like the character shoes. I'll be raging if they're not decent after spending so much money!

Why would you even want tap shoes to look like character shoes - it's the worst. If you're doing tap I much prefer seeing black, block heeled tap shoes than I do nude coloured tap shoes with a heel. I've also seen people almost breaking their necks trying to do pull backs with heels (presuming you're going to do it flat footed - as if like, stamp stamp pull back whatever) so when they rock back onto their heel they fall over or something - or in one case the heel actually snapped. They were some cheap ass tap shoes in that instance though.
