Default BBC 3 moving online from February

If you haven't heard, the BBC has just announced it is going ahead with the changes to BBC 3 - turning it into an online only channel from February, apparently to save money.

There's been a lot of people complaining about this. The BBC claims that BBC 3's audience tends to prefer to watch content online and so this move in their opinion makes sense. While I rarely watch BBC 3 these days, I find that statement is quite generic. A lot of people do watch online/on demand content regularly, but I do still prefer to watch live tv if I can.

There's a lot of people also concerned about new talent. BBC 3 has nurtured a lot of new comedians, such as Jack Whitehall, Russell Howard, James Corden etc. There's worry that new talent won't make as much impact with the new system. Some shows like Russell Howard's Good News and Family Guy have however moved to BBC 1, 2 etc.

    What do people think?

Actually wait, no, can't we close it down completely instead? The sooner we're free from Whitehall, Howard, Mitchell and Brook as a nation the better.

It's the only channel i watch every night. Everything else is boring.
Family guy & American dad. Coming of age, gavin & stacey, being human. Him & her. Some legendary programs have been screened on bbc3. When it switches online I genuinely have no reason to have a tv in my bedroom anymore. Personally i think they will loose alot of viewers from taking the channel off air. I don't & wont watch any channel online.

The thing is bbc 3 has had some really bad programs but it's had important stuff for people in its age range. Really when you consider all the people who study film and actually have talent but never get a big break it makes me wonder if the BBC could have done a lot more in regards to new talent from actors, directors, writers etc.

Glad I'm not the only one thinking this!

I lost faith in BBC3 when they cancelled In The Flesh (@welshcake; @Zealoux; @thms; ) because apparently they wanted to invest their funding in newer, better (???) shows and then came out with that crap like the faux-documentary I Survived a Zombie Apocalypse thing idk if you know what I'm talking about.

I used to love all the drama and comedy (I love ANY kind of comedy tbh though) because it's the only BBC channel that actually aims to appeal to my age range. Sure, other BBC channels have individual shows that might be aimed at me but I know that I'll start going over to Channel 4/E4/whatever4 once BBC 3 is gone because I do not enjoy watching TV online and, like you, will not start just because BBC3 has gone online.
