You can now make coloured text on signs if you wish. Just go to: http://minecraft.tools/en/color-code.php and then use codes from "Chat color code" column.

But instead of the §4 it will be &4 so the symbol at the start is a & sign.

So example I write on a sign:

&4Hello

It would then turn that Hello text into the colour dark red.
