Allowing Children to wear make up

Something that I thought today driving passed a mother and her child who obviously was wearing more make up than you can shake a stick at, and it got me thinking of my child and what I would of done in that situation.

In your opinion, at what age do you think it is appropriate for a parent to allow their child to wear make up?

I started wearing makeup in 4th grade and I regret it. I feel like it killed my self confidence more than anything else.

Probably ruight when you hit your teens it is acceptable. 13. Maybe 12.

Or... Once you feel your child is ready.. Let them wear it.. You're the parent. You make the decisions. Watch how your child reacts and their maturity level.

didnt start wearing makeup til i was 13/14- in grade 9. sumtimes wore like lipgloss for fun when i was even younger but deff wouldnt let my child wear makeup until atleast 12

I don't wear make up myself, I just don't see the point in it personally (although obviously other people do and have their reasons for wearing it). Until I'm in that situation, I honestly can't answer, a part of me would like my children to express themselves and be free to do what they wish to a point, but I'd still be the parent, and if they're caked up with make up they're going to be looked at, and some of those looks might not be positive ones. I believe it's more acceptable when they're ready, but talk to them about it as well instead of just letting them.

right I am a bit miss and go with this topic cause I have a positive reason why you should allow your child and then why you shouldn't

So you should Allow your child to express themselves no matter what boys and girls, as its a path that can lead them to explore what they hate and what they like. Experimenting at a early age is how most children learn of likes and dislikes. That child may have seen someone they know put makeup on and thought that they should try it cause lets be honest a lot of adults wear make up, daily.
children like to experiment what they see others do. Like dressing up in mum/dads clothes, baking, going on a computer, etc. The most efficient way a child learns up until the age of 10 is by copying what others do.

shouldn't part. Make-up is normally used to hide imperfections (what I use it for and my family use it for). This could lead to low self-esteem in later life and may lead to a unhappy child. Make-up can also damage the skin so if you started young by time your a teen going into puberty your skin will be rough. I think from how you have described above the parent has applied the makeup? if this is true then I definitely don't think the parent should be doing it and more the child should be doing it (eye liner and mascara should not be applied at all to anyone under 10 as it can cause eye problems). If my child asked if he could try makeup I would buy one of them child kits that contain eyeshadow, lip gloss and blusher. I think that's all a child under the age of 10 should be trying.

From my own life I never started wearing makeup till I was almost 16, and am 17 in August so I've not been wearing it very long. My skin is not as soft as it used to be its actually rough and I have got more spots in the last year than I ever did in high school.

Whatever age they start taking an interest and want to wear it. It'd be limited to specific products depending on their age and I wouldn't allow every day use if they were still young. I reckon around 12 (that's high school age isn't it?) I wouldn't care as much but I wouldn't let them leave the house if it looked too much or gross lol
