That was done to prevent the random notifications that were occurring where it looked like you did get a +rep but in fact you didn't. Although, this was done before we thought we would get the like system installed successfully.

Essentially it was a random thread or a constant +rep notification along with an invisible rep.

Now you can see who repped you and the comment, at the cost of seeing a random post/threads
