Britain's General Election called for 4th July 2024

The King dissolves Parliament for an early July election following Prime Minister Rishi Sunak's request

I literally just landed in the UAE and came online to see an announcement was imminent.

God I can't WAIT to vote Sunak and the Tories out. Either by voting for a Farage-led Reform or sitting on my hands and not voting. Either way, the result will still be the same - total devastation for the Tories who've stabbed voters like me in the back.

I for one cannot wait to lend my support by voting for the Conservative and Unionist Party. The last 14 years have proven their capability to manage the economy, vaccine rollout etc. and it would simply be chaos with Ed Miliband otherwise. Strong and stable.

Sad that some people are still obsessed with Farage.

The latest bumbling Tory policy we're all supposed to be enthused by is bringing back national service for 18 year olds. How exactly do they expect to enforce this policy when they can't even enforce basic border controls, a cornerstone of a functioning state? And on a fairness point, why should young Britons be forced to work for free for a government which charges them full whack for university tuition but then pays out for 4-star hotels for illegal immigrants that have come in on THEIR WATCH!!?? B*stards!

It is because we should've moved on from him now with a new generation of right wingers coming up, but the fact is that only highlights the absolute dearth of talent or actual conservatives in the Unconservative Party. The Tories only started winning impressive vote shares (and a large majority) in 2017 and 2019 when they started promising and were forced to do what conservative voters wanted. Now that they've yet again done the opposite of what their voters have been promised for 14 years, patience has snapped.

With any luck they plunge below 100 seats and Farage sweeps in after their collapse to realign the party and the right.

    No closing of the polls.

On these numbers it is quite a close run thing that Sir Ed Davey would become leader of His Majesty's Official Opposition.

A huge poll/model came out just earlier which at this time at the last election more or less predicted the outcome.

It really is remarkable that little Rishi Sunak was so desperate to become Prime Minister and knifed two Prime Ministers in the back, all to do absolutely nothing in office that his voting base wanted and to end up taking the Tories to a record defeat that they may never recover from. From what the polls are telling us, he's going to go down in history to such a low that he'll make Jeremy Corbyn and Sir Anthony Eden look like electoral winner geniuses. But I did say from the moment he was put into office he'd be useless, didn't I?

I wasn't going to vote but with Farage back campaigning I will probably vote for Reform now.

Nigel Farage announces return to frontline politics

Tories worst nightmare comes true as Farage returns as Reform party leader and will stand as an MP in Clacton

I have mentioned Canada 1993 before but it is looking more and more likely.

YouGov have adjusted their methodology slightly which meant tonight's poll on the older methodology would've had then neck and neck on 18%.

The problem for the Tories now is saying "A vote for Reform is a vote for Labour" doesn't really wash because everybody knows that Labour are going to form the next government. In any case, if a crossover does happen then Nigel Farage can turn around now and say "A vote for the Conservatives is a vote for Labour"...
