Luxembourg's Grand Duke Henri announces his abdication

Grand Duke Henri of Luxembourg, monarch of the small European country since 2000, announces his abdication for the 3rd October 2025 in his Christmas Speech - his son will succeed him as Grand Duke William V

Not exactly a shock as abdication is a Luxembourgish tradition, much like the Dutch royals do.

Interestingly his son is likely to be titled as Grand Duke William V, and the next British and Commonwealth king is likely to be King William V so we'll have two monarchs around with the same regnal name in years to come! On another note, always found it interesting how smaller mainland European countries; Luxembourg/Monaco/the Vatican/Andorra managed to maintain their independence and sovereignty despite the turmoil over the centuries involving European Great Powers.
