Iran facing rising civil unrest

Cities and towns across the country are chanting for the overthrow of the Ayatollah and the return of the Shah on the streets - thousands have been arrested, hundreds injured and dozens suspected to have been killed

Let us hope this is the moment where the wicked Islamic Republic ends.

I will post updates as they continue to come. We're now on the tenth day or so of unrest.

We've been here before, of course. What will make the difference will be defections from regime forces.

I am usually a sceptic of regime change, having opposed the Iraq, Syria and Libya interventions (and proven right, I believe - other than on Syria which remains to be seen). However, Iran is different in that it has a broadly unified and moderate opposition, the Iranian Imperial Family can take leadership as a rallying cause, and the collapse of the Islamic Republic would be a positive for the region and the world.

The exiled Crown Prince (and would-be Shah) has called for more people to come out on the streets or chant at 8pm on Thursday and Friday.
