Well first off, there's a difference between Best Songwriters and Best Lyricists. For example Axl Rose was a great songwriter, just not a very good lyricist. So don't get mixed up people. My top 5 songwriters of all time:

    1. John Lennon/Paul McCartney - (The Beatles)
    2. Mick Jagger/Keith Richards - (Rolling Stones)
    3. Bob Dylan
    4. Pete Townshend - (The Who)
    5. Brian Wilson - (Beach Boys)

Hmm, Lennon- Imagine'd be one. Young/Young/Scott were good (AC/DC).

    Yeah.

Im more of a classical Music Person.

    here are my thoughts:

1.Haydn- trumpet concerto in EFlat Major
    2.Bach - Tocatto in D Minor
    3.Goff Richards- Celtic knots
    4. Beethoven - fur Elise

John Lennon, Kurt Cobain, and Chris Cornell had the best work. Chris Cornell's lyrics I love, because many songs are like stories.

Zack and Brandon were great lyricists, not too greater songwriters Imo. Cobain was a great songwriter but there are lots better than him.
