    Default Songs/bands fact thread

Do you know something interesting about a band or song? Maybe something ironic? Well post it here. Ill start:

    - Nirvana's original name was "skid row" when david grohl (now foo fighters singer) was the singer. They changed it to nirvana. Durring late 80's and early 90's, a different band with the name Skid Row became very popular, but started to lose popularity after Nirvana came out with nevermind.

    - REM's "losing my religion" was writen in response to "Every move you make" by sting

Nirvana had loads of names before coming up with the final name . Quite crude ones too.

    - November Rain is the longest #1 in US history. [8:57 mins]

    - Van Halen did the guitar to the hit "Beat It" by Michael Jackson.

    - Dimebag Darrel of 2004 was killed by a clinically insane ex-marine whilst playing in concert in 2004.

    - Zakk Wylde (Ozzy Osbourne) joined Guns n' Roses temporarily to play alongside Slash when Gibly (Rhythm guitarist) left.

    - A man called "El Douche" claimed that Courtney Love offered to pay him a large amount of money to kill Cobain in 1994. El Douche was killed a few months later. His accident report read "Train accident". Suspicious to say the least.

    - If you play Hit Me Baby One More Time by Britney backwards, it sounds like "Sleep with me, I'm not too young."

    - Axl Rose has spent $24 million on the new GnR album which is yet to appear.

    - Cobain tuned Van Halen down when he requested to jam on-stage with him as he was wasted. (Owned hahaha)

    - Appetite for Destruction (GnR, 1987) was the biggest selling album of the 80's. Use Your Illusion I & II were released at the same time (1992). They both took up the #1 and #2 in the album chart within the first week.

Sorry if there only facts based on my favourite bands but heh.

    Well...

    - The Cure were called Easy Cure until they shortened it
    - Robert Smith (the Cure) is afraid of flying
    - Brandon Flowers (the Killers) is a mormon
    - Chris Martin's friend had a band named 'Coldplay' but he gave the band name to Chris as he found the name 'Coldplay' too depressing
    - David Bowie's real name is David Jones, yet around the time he started releasing songs he changed it as there already was a Davy Jones in the Monkees and he wanted to avoid confusion
    - Kaiser Chiefs always have a short part of their songs where Ricky Wilson starts shouting 'Aaaaah' around four times.

Yeh, what was funny was the simmilarities between that and John Lennon. They were shot on the same day I think, both in front of their producers, both by an ex-marine, and both by someone who admired their work. There are probably more online, Ill look it up later.

    - The band called "The Band" was discovered by Bob Dylan, under the name "The Hawks". Bob Dylan didnt like the name, but they couldnt they couldnt think of another one. They signed themselves as "The Band"

-Soundgarden got their name from a sculpture in seattle.

-Soundgarden's "Badmotorfinger" was the song expected to break out grunge and alternative rock, but was overshadowed by Nirvana's "Smells like teen spirit" which was released just a few days before.

-Jason Everman, an unknown guitarest, played with soundgarden, nirvana, and pearl jam, but left all three before they became popular.

-Here's a well known one: AC/DC's name came from the positive (AC) and negetive (DC) electric charge, thus creating the lightening bult in between.

-David Grohl played all the instruments on the Foo Fighters debute album, but tried to keep it low while looking for band members to make the "s" in Foo Fighters make more sense.

    - Audioslave, just last year became the first ever american band to put on a concert in cuba.

Billy Joe Armstrong of Green Day and Chester Bennington of Linkin Park are both bisexual.

Gary Powell of The Libertines is distantly related to Colin Powell, and Mike Shinoda of Linkin Park is distantly related to Tchaikovsky

Grohl didn't come on til 90'. And Jason Everman was fired even though he's the one that provided the $500 that paid for Nirvana's debut album "Bleach"... he never got his money back.

o.O Didn't know that. Interesting. It's quite annoying knowing you'll never see such great guitarists play again, especially when it was down to a freak accident. Guys like: Stevie Ray Vaughn, Hendrix, Dimebag and Randy Rhoads.

Hmm, it was something like that then... hmmm...

I just looked it up, you were right. I thought it was him, then they got rid of him for jason everman, then got him back again. They had so many names.

And thrilled, Im trying to look up the site that showed the similarities between them, all I could get was they were both shot on the same day 24 years apart.

Not everyone may listen to them but the band the snake, the cross, the crown got there name because the singer when he was younger was ignored by his father alot. His dad spent most of his time working on his car and on the car there was a picture of a snake a cross and a crown. Thats where they got the name.
