Personally i've looked at both pics, i asked my scools resident CG advisor and he says with a bit of tweeking its easy to change the original into the 'paint' version.
And another thing, a theory needs to be proven wrong, not vice versa. (thats why we though the sun revolved around the earth untill it was proven wrong.)
