To be fair a 1.2/5Ghz dual core processor wouldn't have hurt..One could argue Windows 8 isn't anything new because we've had other mobile platforms for a long time, especially considering this (I'm not saying that's what I believe Matt and Tom and other Microsofts, relax!) however it would be a similar stance to go along with what you're saying.
Apple never really advertised this to be something huge did they? If it was meant to be a big transition it would have been dubbed the 5 right? Also most phones aren't dual core, most phones don't don't have at first glance anything like the voice recognition. Did you want them to push out a 12MP camera and quad core phone now? I think a dual core handset with a refined camera is just right for the 4S, and will make a lot of iPhone users really happy.
You can't forget, this is also significant because it means iOS 5 is surly making its non beta public appearance soon too, and that in itself is absolutely huge.
This sounds like fair enough improvements to release a new handset to me. Other companies do all the time without changing so much - especially considering the 4s has a dual core processor I'd say it's a fair iPhone release.Copied and pasted this from Chris Pirillo's Google+:

I think I know the cheapest method to get an iPhone 4S with a decent "contract" / spec;

So it seems to be selling like hot cakes, no surprise!AT&T has seen extraordinary demand for iPhone 4S with more than 200,000 preorders in the first 12 hours alone, the most successful iPhone launch we've ever had. It's obvious customers like AT&T's 4G network, which is the only one that lets their iPhone download twice as fast and talk and surf simultaneously.![]()
You're probably referring to My Ford Touch which uses Ford Sync based off of Microsoft Sync released ages ago, itself based off Windows CE.
Been around for about two years now, it's meant to work quite well but I think you can only get it in the US still.

Seems like they haven't really done anything new this time around, and are just playing catch up to the recent Android phones. Hopefully they have something a bit more innovative in store for the 5. To the comments about how high Apple's preorders for this phone have been; guess it's pretty easy to sell a lot of phones when you don't let any other manufacturers produce any hardware with your OS.

Dual core processor and 8MP camera. That's not playing catchup that's on par with other handsets.Seems like they haven't really done anything new this time around, and are just playing catch up to the recent Android phones. Comparing it to the last iPhone it has a vastly better processor, so I would say for iPhone users this would be a significant upgrade.

That's playing catch up. To finally be on par with something is to catch up with itIt's a significant upgrade on the current iPhone, but like I said, nothing special in the eyes of the overall, smartphone genre. It's just finally caught up.

No, in my opinion it's not playing catchup at all. There's not that many dual core smartphones right now. Most are still single cored. In a year, if they were just upgrading to a dual core chipset I would call it playing catchup. However since most smartphones are single cored and dual cored phones are new in 2011 it's not catchup. What would you of had Apple release for it not to be catchup? We're far from quad core phones you know![]()
