The users who have posted in those threads are the ones who would be against the most. Also are threads like: Post your setup, post your desktop considered pointless or do the at least contribute something?
My view on it is quite simple.
'Post your setup', realistically you can't post in that thread every few hours with your new computer setup, heck, not even every week. The same with 'Post your desktop.
'Post your setup' does create discussion because people are interested in their one-off posts. Nobody is interested that some girl has wore jeans and a t-shirt and then pyjamas the last 28 days in a row. Of course the discussion value of each thread is different to everyone, but some are much more clear than others.
Surely it's fairly simple to discern between threads that have conversation and threads that don't? And then with any that do have actual discussions that are left in their places (post your setup supposedly does although I haven't looked through it myself) it would be easy enough to just moderate it as you would any other legitimate thread, editing/warning those posts which aren't contributing anything at all
And thus require them to think of well thought out statements which require effort, what a silly idea to suggest to people who gain 100s of posts a month simply by stating their music taste, what film they watch, a random image etcIf the users who have posted loads in these threads (AND YES ADMITTEDLY I HAVE 150 POSTS IN THE "WHAT ARE YOU LISTENING TO" THREAD) are doing it over a long period of time, then they won't adjust to "genuine discussion" and will therefore complain once their easy method of gaining post count diminishes because they might actually have to type more than 10 words.
I'm not saying everyone who posts in those threads can't create a genuine discussion on the forum, but it's just a lazy route to getting the post count. Especially by grabbing a damn bloody image from google images.

Why would anyone have to lose post count anyway though? Couldn't you just close the current threads, use the copy thread tool to copy them accross to wherever they are going (new subforum or w.e for threads which dont have discussion), therefore leaving the original threads (unstuck though ofc) where they were, and post count not being changed and so their post counts won't reduce.
The copied threads would obviously be in a place where post count is then disabled, meaning both sides are happy. Perhaps people werent aware when they voted that it could be made so no current post counts would be lost/changed. If people want to up their post count then hopefully they will then look at posting in threads which do have lots of discussion in them if the pointless ones are out the way.
I think this was always going to be the problem with polls, even if you do go by the results you are going to have a split between peoples opinions afterwards. I don't personally see what harm it would have done to trial such a thing anyway, since I guess if current threads are allowed there isn't really much to stop people thinking its okay to create new ones similar.

Here's my view but doesn't mean it will get applied because Chris hates me for saying revote
- Move all the threads into a new-sub forum with post count disabled. This sub-forum will be a place for the threads that do not create discussion at all or very little. Such as: Post any images, what you've just ate, what you are listening to.
- The original place of the threads would still have a link to the moved threads so they can be accessible with ease (redirects)
- Threads that can't actually be used to spam or do at least have some decent discussion should remain such as: desktops and setups. Those threads have rules in place about spamming anyway.
Yes post count will go down from the users who used it the most. But is it deserved post count? It should be about quality and not quantity. @MissAlice;'s quote)
That is another option, yes.Why would anyone have to lose post count anyway though? Think that sounds like a good, fair idea Mattand I agree about the techy ones such as desktops etc, since it is hard to use those purely for post count/spam them and they are actually interesting and can promote some discussion. I am glad you are thinking about giving this a go though and don't really see the harm in trying it- especially when people don't have to lose any of their current post count at all, and it will keep these type of threads seperate from actual discussion.

Then it's one member of management saying they're going with poll, and another saying no
Perhaps management need to have a discussion and figure if they're actually going to listen to the poll (honestly couldn't care less if they all got moved or stayed, but having a poll and ignoring the results is fairly pointless, as what would be the point in the poll?)
Didn't we originally (or still might, idk) have redirects when the forum games were nuked? I remember that switch going rather smoothly and it was definitely suggested if not implemented, think that's a good way to do it tbh
Down with the polls. Then it's one member of management saying they're going with poll, and another saying no

We probably did yeah.

The whole forum/sub-forum idea - Does anyone have any suggestions for the name?
