They were all fodder. They're characters have no significance in the progression of the story. Unless any reference is made to them in the future, their inclusion in the story over the last few years has been pointless.

The filler arc was co-written by Tite Kubo wasn't it? Nevertheless I doubt I'll like it more than the incredible Soul Society arc.

And ye, in Bleach ATM all that's left is Aizen, Tosen and Ichimaru, and Yammy. Kenpachi and Byakuya vs. Yammy, Ichigo and Shinji vs. Aizen, Komamura and Hisagi vs. Tosen, no one against Ichimaru atm.
