Yes, simplifing the dialogue is a perfect translation because it is aimed at CHILDREN. You can't expect them to leave in Japanese text - children just wouldn't understand. Viz have chosen not to aim One Piece at people of your age - please try and understand that. Also, why the hell would they leave God as Kami in a childrens manga? Enlighten me. This also inforces what I said about you having little hands on experience with Viz, because in 20th Century Boys (a more mature series) they do actually leave God as Kami. The target audience of a manga such as 20th Century Boys is able to understand all of the references to Japanese culture and are able to take in translation notes. The children One Piece is aimed at WILL NOT GET IT.
Yes, you are allowed an opinion, but your reasons for claiming Viz 'suck' are completely absurd. Plus you're only using One Piece as an example, which doesn't even count for 1% of all the manga Viz have released. When you're actually familiar with their work please get back to me, because then your opinion might mean something.

- Example of bad translation in my opinion. Tori Tori no Mi, Model: Falcon. Tori meaning bird would mean a suitable translation should have been "Bird Bird Fruit, Model: Falcon" But viz had it down as Tweet Tweet. which isnt correct and dosent work with th fact the guy turns into a falcon not a chirpy little bird. And is also a 4kids term.
- Kami.. They should just have balls and translate it as God. and the fact they have someone else call them selfs God in a previous chapter makes no sense.
- And They used Kami in chapters and didnt bother to add a editor note until a couple volumes when it appeared.
- Your end comment annoyed me =/ im all up for debates/arguments makes this forum worth coming to. but comments like that just annoy the **** out of me. saying my opinion means nothing =/

Yeah well what you said annoyed me, but I'm sure we'll live. Also, Bird Bird Fruit, Model: Falcon is a silly title. No wonder it was changed. I am not going to continue this debate because you are just not taking in what I am saying. No offence, but your opinon didn't really mean anything because you claimed Viz suck when apparently you were actually only referring to their work on One Piece and Dragon Ball. If you really did just mean that Viz's work on One Piece and Dragon Ball sucked then you would have said that in the first place. We can't have a meaningful debate when one of us is not certain on what we're debating. We're never going to agree anyway, so there is no point in continuing this pointless argument.

Bird Bird Fruit, Model: Falcon is Correct tho. and its alot better than Tweet Tweet. Pretty sure if Giga Drill Breaker was renamed to something like Super Duper Twirling Drill you would have something to say.
And i could say the same to you. No matter what you say. Simplifying it and dumbing down is not a "Perfect" translation. No matter what age group its aimed at.
And you know what im like i say MANGA suck for missing subs and not adding clean OP/ED. I just say they do dosent mean i hate them completly just dont go into the details why. So when i said Viz sucked i was meaning cos of OP. My manga wouldnt be 95% Viz if i thought they sucked completly.
