I gave in and watched the camrip. It is indeed fantastic, although I think there is one major flaw with the plot. Nevertheless, it gets a 9 out of 10 from me.
Ippo is one of my favourite anime ever

Neither the Ippo anime nor the manga will ever be released over here again. You can count on it.

Why would Funimation even want to get the series from Geneon when the DVD sales were terrible. Even in Japan the DVDs for New Challenger underperformed. It's not easy money, its a loss of money. I'm not even sure Geneon still own the license anyway. Besides, Funimation can't just take over any series they take a liking to. The only reason they got many of ADVs titles in the past is because ADV went bankrupt and had to sell off all their assets.

Gainax's (creators of Evangelion and Gurren Lagann) next series is going to be "set in Great Britain from 1900 to 1930". It would be amazing if they did something steampunk-ish. Really looking forward to whatever it is they have coming up.

"The North American anime distributor FUNimation Entertainment has announced that it signed a deal with Geneon Entertainment to manufacture, sell, and distribute "select" DVD titles in North America. Those titles include Ergo Proxy, Hellsing Ultimate, Black Lagoon, Black Lagoon: The Second Barrage, Karin, Kyo kara Maoh! Season 2, Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha, Elemental Gelade, Fate/stay night, Kamichu, the live-action Ninja Vixens work, Paradise Kiss, Rozen Maiden, Rozen Maiden - Träumend, Shana, Shonen Onmyouji, The Familiar of Zero, The Story of Saiunkoku, When They Cry - Higurashi, and The Law of Ueki."

well i dno. Ippo is pretty high or was on MAL and if funi brough out boxsets like they do with all these series they seem to get then they may sell well. Just need to do a questionaire like they normaly do and suggest Ippo. i dno. i just dont want to fork out for all those singles

But Ippo doesn't rank high in popularity. Not many people know about it and even on MAL where it gets a lot of coverage its still ranked fairly low at #268.

Thats what I was talking about above.

It's great that animation studios are hiring foreigners now as long as they speak Japanese. Working for Gainax would be insane. I wonder what they have up their sleeves and I wonder if it will be mecha related like 90% of their other series.

    TENGEN TOPPA BIG BEN !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
