As for the first question, I found a series of tutorials on YouTube that were quite useful to understand the concept. http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=ClAUdn3ja1Q. If you go along, pause it etc, it works well. I think there are about 6 or 7 parts to it.

As for the second question, I am not sure, I havent flown for ages.

erm, you can't just set your AP to co-ordinates.

For basic flying (not recomended) you have to set heading
For better flying (advanced), the FMC does it for you.

Does anyone know the font for the Qantas name, because my one sucks.

Just so I can see what it looks like is FS9, how do I apply it to the plane in the simulator?

Yes, but how do I work out the heading from the co-ordinates in relation to the plane?

Well, you need to add all the images too a folder in what ever model your using, for example, go to Programme Files and settings, find the FS9 Folder (Usually in Microsoft games folder) then Aircraft, then if its a 737-600 or W.E you go in that folder, make a folder called Texture.QA and add all images in there, then edit the Aircraft.cfg file and add a filmstrip or w.e they're called!
