When cruising you need to remember the QUADRATICAL RULE and choose the relevant flight level.

Heading 000 - 089 : Flight level should be ODD
Heading 090 - 179 : Flight level should be ODD + 5
Heading 189 - 269 : Flight level should be EVEN
Heading 270 - 359 : Flight level should be EVEN + 5
