    I recommend a Crate.

    Don't worry about getting a huge amp. I play through a Boss pre-amp and hook it up to a Marshall stack. But if you play live you can just hook up your little 15watt amp to the PA system.

    A good cheap amp is the Roland Cube 15. It's only £80 and for those of us who don't have a distortion pedal (I do but I don't have one of these fellas ^^) it has 4 overdrive options.

    Heres a few:

    Marshall (although with your budget i dnt no if you'll be able to get a decent one)
    Roland (theres are quite cool, but are still quite expensive)
    Fender (theres are nice amps, and not too expensive)

    The lead guitarist in my band has a Fender Strat and he plays a 20watt Roland amp but he got it cheap off a friend for £25.
