I had the unfortunate experience of doing it due to poor school attendance and general behaviour at school. It was awful. I missed out on 3 GCSE's due to it.

Your school may offer it as a seperate subject, but I HAD to do it while missing out on 3 normal school subjects.

Thats what I was thinking. I was looking at the one near me [Midlands] and it has loads of things including Ice Skating, which I do every Saturday. I might aswell do it. I can always drop out.

Not after a month. It's school rules, for all schools. I read the like terms and conditions paper on a site from Ruth Kelly.

GCSE subjects cannot be dropped after a month.

That's why I'm gutted for ART

I'm currently doing my Gold award. For those who don't know what it is, it's basically an award for being bothered to walk several 20-50 mile overnight expeditions (depending on level) with a big rucksack carrying your tent, food etc for 2-4 days, and then doing some community service and other activities. It's pretty hard work on the expeditions but you have fun and once it's over the award will be valuable to your CV/ uni/job applications.
