Well sound as if you have grown out of them but maybe keep them as friends
and make new ones as well when you go back. That way it will happen gradually and hopefully no-one will feel hurt

Just what I was thinking. When you grow up, you often grow out of the friends you hang around with and ultimately make a lot of different set groups of friends as time goes on, and I think this is just you growing out of this group of friends.

You should say something, as they will only pick up on it and it'll all come out worse, but you need to be selective with your words so as not to end up offending them and causing a big argument.
