for downloads in genral i just use the defult firefox, one, or a torrent if possible.
for music i use quintessntal player, wich is just as good as winamp, as in it can do everything winamp can do, as well as have massive amount of downlable skins. plus it doesnt take up anywhere near as much memory to run.

Here Here thaMAX, whereas i would of had to pay nearlly $3000, winMX is proberly the best free downloader to use, yeah it may be illegal but unlike Kazaa and grokster, it doesnt bombard you with Ad and Spy ware. Windows Media Player 9 and 10 i use to play my music
