I really like the idea of the EMA, the problem is, its not run very well.
Ok so they do it based on income which is fair enough
My parents earn like just above the one where Id get it but they dont look at how many siblings you have. I have two siblings in Uni (one just out) and UNI costs a lot. One of which is staying on again to do another degree. Another sibling who is in sixth form and me In upper school.

We all have to live but they don't care. I don't think thats fair to be honest.
pm me for msypace and stuff yeh?

It's great being poor, I get £30 a week just for going to college. It's so much fun watching rich kids complain.

I get £30 a week, but I do think the system is unfair and crap. I've got friends who have to fork out almost £20 a week in travel fares yet get nothing. At the same time you've got "poor" kids getting £30 a week and spending it on luxuries. It's a joke really.

Lol sorry but I COMPELTELY disagree with the whole EMA system.

Our parents are the ones who are out working and those are the one's who are paying you these benefits. Where I live, you get £30 per week and then a further £150 bonus at Christmas. Eh well I don't see how it's fair that people like me need to do a part time job as well as 5 A-levels on top of that just to earn a bit of money, when other people are doing the exact same as me, despite their fact their parents arn't contributing as much to our economy, yet their the one who gets the benefits?

I think if the pupil in questions parents are both working and making an income which is under £30 000 per year then fair enough, at leas they people are trying but there's a huge load of people out there whos parents do absoloutley nothing all day, apart from scrounge off of the government and our parents, and they get this too.

The whole system just encourages people to go on more benefits. It's supposed to encourage more people to stay on for higher education, well I don't see why people whos parents income isn't greater get more motivation to stay on to school when I dont? Just because my parents earn money far from means I have any more prospects or ambitions than anyone else in the world.

Also, what is this £120 supposed to be spent on? Fees to and from school etc.? Well the pupils managed to do it all right up until now, so I don't see why its all of a sudden necessary. Also, there is no way, and we all know that and it's clearly been shown on here by a lot of you, that the money isn't spent on school etc. It annoys me that I need to go out and work to get money so I can go out at the weekend, or buy myself clothes, or treat my girlfriend, whilst you lot who get the EMA can just go to school and get the same income as I would as well, yet you have more time to concentrate on your studies too?

Sorry, my rants over but you've honestly no idea how strongly I disagree with the whole system, and a lot of my cousins and stuff are actually getting the benefits and I still feel this.

Hopefully I havn't offended anyone, but afterall this is a forum and I'm just expressing my opinion and views. :]

I use my money for college. And whatever I have left at the end of the week I spend on me.

I agree with it purely on the basis that I benefit from it.

They are just periodic £100 payments that are meant to encourage you to stay on through the entire course.

Year 12 - January
Year 12 - June
Year 13 - September
Year 13 - January
Year 13 - June

They are supposed to only be given if you are doing well and meeting the requirements of your course, but a lot of schools just give them out for you still being there.
