Not nessessarily.
Its not vital, and sometimes, it takes a few CSS hacks to get it sorted

And often, in an attempt to get it valid, you need to use CSS hacks, which I dont like doing much. So I code so that its cross-browser, which sometimes isnt Valid

btw I recomend Joe lite or Piano For good web design.
