Yes, they should have, but not everyone does. Someone with an impairment (Disability) and didn't know what they was doing and you 'sorted it out for him', would that be right?

It doesn't matter if they start it or not, sorting it out by hitting the person is never the answer.

I'm in year 11, I would of defended my self as well but maybe not hitting him, I'm a prefect so I would simply get him a hour after school + a report to headmaster

The kids are like that at my school, they'll try and pick on a year11 if they have a large group and the year 11's on their own. Happened to me earlier.
I threatened to smash a year8's face into a wall, hasn't looked at me since.
