plus you would have to switch out between mage/inivite armor just to cast a spell =\

It's Initiate not Initive.
You can wear a Initiate with mage gear in your inventory. It's what most good PK'ers do or they were mystic top with black d hide legs and cast mage spells then switch to a dds or whip while they are attacking with mage aswell.

If you check the mage equipment correctly it requires 20 defence and 40 mage to wear mystic, Distad.

And have you ever heard of hiei the pk? He's an initiate pure and tends to ice barrage.
