Yeah they re-used an old idea but why not It looked really cool an interesting back then and probably still is (I haven't played it yet - *sad*)
You can actually see things in there that are now on habbos
eg.
First image: that beanie, santa hat
Second image: the bot there is exaclty what the habbo au welcome lounge bot wears.That red suit thing.
And of course, the speech bubbles and shouting/saying
