This one does HDMI for your information, which the white Xbox 360 does not. It's got a new fan along with different processors etc so it'll probably run faster and wont freeze.. I think it's a smaller processor actually. Also just to get Xbox 360 owners cheering and PS3 & Wii owners cursing, the new black Xbox is supposed to be around £200-£250 and it's got more stuff than the PS3 has.. Hey why don't Xbox put in blue-ray just to really rub it in? *grins* Oh wait, we dont need it

Plus to anyone who says this has been posted months ago, this is the official annoucement from Microsoft. There have been sightings and images of the new 360 but they were rumours then.. I would put my money on them producing a new white 360 while they're at it with HDMI capabilities, next batch maybe? >.> This definetly wont be limited edition as it's only black for god sake, the same color as the original xbox so they'd be silly to do so. Personally I'll be selling my premium xbox along with controller & hard drive so if anyone wants to contact me soon then I'll happily sell it to you (when the release date is annouced and when I've got my data on a memory card!)

Sony & the PS3 just got a kick in the groin methinks..

I'd like to know that too.. I'm guessing around September-October or even Christmas time.

• The Elite is just a 360 in black, with a HDMI port and a bigger hard-drive.
• HDMI is a completely digital multimedia interface, and is basically another means of transferring data from the 360 to your TV/monitor. It allows a crisper picture and definitions of up to 1080p.
• HOWEVER very few people have TVs that support this resolution. Most video games are native at 720p, which is considered much better for moving images than 1080i (the maximum that most TVs can output).
• The Elite does come with a 120GB HDD, which you'll be able to purchase as an upgrade for your current 360 if you wish. The separate hard-drive will come with a data cable that will allow you to transfer everything from your old HDD to your new one.
• The Elite is not a limited edition, it is here to stay.
• The Elite is NOT getting the new 65nm motherboard many expected. That will come to all three versions of the 360 in good time.
• The US is getting the Elite 29th April, and the Australian release is said to be "winter". You can therefore expect a European release sometime in between. Possibly summer, although the release of Halo 3 may be cashed in on with a simultaneous launch.
• The price in the US will be $479. the current models will NOT receive a price drop. I would expect there to be a drop around Christmas.
• My guess for the UK price is between £329.99 and £379.99. Microsoft is likely to have seen the news that 165 000 people were willing to shell out £424.99 on a PS3 and will take our eagerness to be ripped off into account when pricing the unit.

In my opinion it's a slight missed opportunity. Microsoft should have shoved WiFi and a HD-DVD/Blu-Ray drive in there and undercut the PS3. And boy should they have made it quieter.

I'm really tempted to trade in my current premium when this get released. I'd rather spend £150 getting a new 360 than £425 getting a PS3. The Elite is hot... and the black controller is just uber-cool.

Well actually, if Blu-Ray ends up winning the format war, Microsoft have already said that they will release an external drive to support it, like with the current HD-DVD one. Blu-Ray sales seem to be performing quite a bit better than HD-DVD sales, so it's looking like that's going to win. Putting a Blu-Ray drive in the Xbox would both undercut the PS3's signature "buy us and get a cheap Blu-Ray player" tag and please the Blu_ray consortium by effectively wrapping up the format's victory over HD-DVD.
