Maybe to give it the sandy look make a sand patch without the shells and fill the floor with them but make sure you make it look like one block, and then recolour them a bit darker and use them for the steps on the pyramid.

The next thread you post about this better actually be the final project. If you want opinions on things yoiu can get them in that thread and by saving and editing your WIPs you can add the improvements to that thread.
A pyramid's edges go all the way to the bottom, this is a pyramid upon a square prism and isn't right. Now this isn't much to look at all since it's one simple shape and some floor but it does need work before you proceed.

Completely untrue. I have been to many places with real life pyramids and many of them start like this.
