Maybe "himself" is an emo.. all this "just be yourself" stuff is nonsense, everything we do is influenced by something or someone else.

I don't see the problem tbh, the girl you like wants you to go out, no problem there. Also, if you want to be emo, be emo, the fact your asking wether you should turn emo is emo enough for me.
