It's an agreement that being entered into the exams means that you pay if you fail to turn up to them.

I dunno if it's in writing, but the school do charge you if you miss them and you don't have a doctors note. Even if sick due to nerves you can sit out the hall with an invigilator, my mate kept passing out so thats what he did. He was on the floor for about 10 mins during our English exams when he eventually came round and he left.

Even though you were throwing up due to nerves, you should have still gone in
