I would say, not to read tutorials.

This is because, different tutorials give different answers and this can become confusing.

My advice is to just look at what other people have done, and if you don't know what something does, ask.

There's lots of friendly people () on HxF that are willing to help!

For beginners I suggest http://www.funky-chickens.com/ and http://www.lissaexplains.com/html.shtml , I also suggest looking through the source of other sites so you know how it all works , For complex stuff use w3schools

Good idea, but as I said, tutorials can be confusing.

I would jut stick with looking at source code and then asking about bits you don't know
